Today's Best Conversation

While waiting for my order from a local deli:

Deli Guy: How do you pronounce your name?
Me: Pinar.
DG: Oh wow, what an interesting name. It's very unique.
Me: Hah yes it is.
DG (debating whether or not he should ask the obvious follow up question): What nationality is it?
Me: Turkish.
DG: Turkish?! Wow....you must've had a crazy household to grow up in.
Me: Uh...not really. It was pretty normal.
DG: Oh so pretty open-minded?
Me: Yep, my family is pretty modern (insert polite/nervous laughter).
DG: Interesting. Hmm, I really would've assumed your name was a guy's name.
Me: Nope nope, definitely a girl's name.
DG: It's certainly not the usual American name.
Me: Hah, well, now that someone named Barack Obama is about to be our president, my name is as American as ever.
DG (cracks up laughing): Touche!
